Cove Slip On The Banana Skin

Cove 3 Nairn 3

Cove can console themselves with the fact that Buckie lost at Keith so no change at the top of the HFL. Now it is advantage Keith as the Kynoch Park club have games in hands and can overtake the top two in the HFL.

Cove were at home for the third consecutive Saturday and went behind for the third consecutive weekend when Brian MacLeod (25 mins) fired a great 25-yard shot into the Cove net after the free-flowing 9th place side, under no pressure, capitalised on early good play.

MacLeod fired home a second from the spot 9 minutes later after a clumsy challenge just inside the box by a Cove defender gifted Nairn a chance to double their lead.

Cove could have gone further behind before Jamie Watt nipped in to make it 1-2 at the break with a home goal 3 minutes from half time.

Ex-Arbroath attacking midfielder Kevin Webster made it 2-2 just before the hour but the visitors would not be denied and Shaun Kerr nipped in at the far post to trundle a cross past home goalie Windrum (81).

Two minutes later it was 3-3 when Cove talisman Kevin Webster cracked home the equaliser to set-up a frantic last 13 minutes (6 minutes added time, don't ask where from) but the yellow wall stood firm and Cove had to make do with a point. The HFL table now sees Cove standing top on 55 pts, Buckie have 54 pts (both sides have 3 League games to play). Keith are now third with 48 points and seven to play making them the firm favourites for the north title.

Saturday 19th April sees Buckie v Cove with Keith looking for the draw so they can continue their catch-up. Next Saturday Cove are at home yet again to Banff side Deveronvale in the semi final of the Fosters Highland League Cup.
