Scotland’s Women’s team will have their work cut out if they are to progress from their qualifying group for the next UEFA Women’s Championship. They have been drawn in the same group as world champions Germany, Russia, Switzerland and Republic of Ireland. New Scotland coach Anna Signeul was there to see the draw made in UEFA headquarters in Switzerland. She has already lined up a couple of friendlies against England next month as part of the preparations for the qualifiers.
The group winners will qualify for the 2007 FIFA World Cup, with Germany being favourites to take that place. Scotland may have a more realistic chance of a play-off place for the UEFA finals. They will have to finish second or be one of the best third placed teams. Scotland can’t escape the Auld Enemy as in the UEFA Under 19 Championship 2005/06, Scotland line up against England as well as the Faroe Islands and Croatia.
