Rainer Bonhof's Scotland Under-21s side lost 2-0 at home to Romania at Firhill tonight. The visitors made a flying start as they took the lead after just five minutes. Mihaita Plesan surprised keeper Craig Samson with a quickly-taken free-kick, rifling home a superb 40-yard effort from the right side. Ciprian Andrei Marica almost made it 2-0 but shot wide when well placed, with Scotland struggling to make an impact. Their best first-half effort came on the half-hour as Andy Dowie headed over from Simon Lappin's corner.
After the restart Kilmarnock keeper Samson made several fine saves to keep his side in the hunt, before Jamie McCunnie's long-range drive on the hour offered a ray of hope to the home side, but it flew harmlessly over the crossbar. However, the visitors struck on the stroke of full-time to wrap up victory. George Mihai-Floresch was in the right place to slide the ball past Samson form close range to complete the 2-0 win.
