Rossvale Extend Championship Lead

Rossvale have extended the lead at the top of the SWF Championship to 14 points after coming from behind to beat Ayr United 2-1 in Cumnock.

Ayr United grabbed an early lead via Claire Docherty, who latched on to a rebound after a McBlain free kick had been saved in the first minute of the game. Ayr looked determined to hold on, Sarah Ferguson in goal in good form to maintain the lead for the first half.

C:WindowsTempphp2450.tmpRossvale were awarded a penalty in the 50th minute and the league’s top scorer Megan Whiteford made no mistake from the spot. Before Ayr could respond, Rossvale captain Lauren Coleman had put the visitors ahead and the Glasgow side held on for what could be a significant win in their promotion push.

Elsewhere, Renfrew brushed aside Hutchison Vale 11-0, East Fife beat Westdyke 8-1 and Morton and Dryburgh Athletic played out a goalless draw.

Two dramatic injury-time goals from Bonnyrigg Rose’s Chelsea Lowe then Saffron McCabe allowed the Midlothian side to leapfrog opponents Queen of the South in the table with a 3-1 win.

In the regional SWFL, a 3-2 comeback by Harmony Row in the South league against leaders Ayr United Development allowed Kilwinning to take the top spot 3for the first time with a 5-2 win over Dalbeattie Star.

Inverurie Locos extended their lead at the top of SWFL North with a 4-0 victory over Arbroath, with second-placed Elgin City drawing 1-1 with Westdyke Thistle, and in East a 1-0 victory in the Fife derby for Glenrothes Strollers over Dunfermline Athletic saw them move back above their rivals in the table behind leaders Armadale Thistle. Drumchapel Utd won 5-0 against Cumbernauld Colts in the SWFL West.
