Celtic 3 Rangers 0

Celtic last night beat the European deadline to sign full back Danny Fox from Coventry City for £2m. The 23 year old left back is boss Tony Mowbray's third signing since taking over the reigns from Gordon Strachan.

Fox won't play in tonight's Wembley cup match against Al Ahly (Egypt) but could make his debut against Tottenham on Sunday and he is also available for the Champions League qualifier against Dinamo Moscow on Wednesday.

Fox joined Coventry from Walsall (League One) 18 months ago and his performances for Walsall in helping them gain promotion was enough for him to be included in Stuart Pearce's England under 21 side, and he is knocking on the door of the full England squad. The left back has also established himself as the leading 'set piece' taker with the Sky Blues. The player won't be new to Scotland when he arrives in Glasgow having already had a loan spell at Stranraer in 2004.

This will bring Mowbray's signings to three having already secured striker Marc-Antoine Fortune and midfielder Landry N'Guemo from Nancy and brings his current spend to £7.5m.

Meanwhile across the city Rangers have failed due to their current financial plight to bring in any new faces for the new season. So currently as it stands the score is Celtic 3 Rangers 0 off the park, but as everyone is aware it's what happens on the field of play that matters but Celtic must be gaining in confidence by introducing not only new players to the squad but quality players from Europe and England whilst Rangers appear to be languishing in Govan.
